#Blogtour – Jay Jay the Supersonic Bus by Sue Wickstead

Blogtour – Saturday 20th April

Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus.png
Hi All

I love books, probably a lot more than I love people at times (Joke….ish), and so I always jump at the chance to read something new or inventive. Even more so, I get a little TOO excited when it comes to sharing new finds with my two little monsters. Being a mother, I always try to encourage my boys to find new books at book stores, charity shops, etc and they love a good bedtime story. And can I just say, my boys loved this one! It was amazing from start to finish, so easy to read with brilliant illustrations throughout. It held my children captive as I read it to them and they took in each picture, absorbing the words with enthusiasm.

Before we head into my review, lets have a peek at the wonderful writer who brought this story to life.

About the Author

Jay-Jay Author Photo.JPG
I am a teacher and an author and have currently written six children’s picture books with a bus theme.

For over 20 years, alongside my teaching career, I worked with a Children’s Charity, The Bewbush Playbus Association, which led me to write a photographic history book about it.

I soon found that many children had never been on a bus before, let alone a ‘Playbus’ and they wanted to know more. I decided to write a fictional tale about the bus, his number plate JJK261 gave him his name.

‘Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus,’ came out in print in 2014. It is the story behind the original bus and is his journey from a scrap-yard to being changed into a playbus for children to play in. From Fact to fiction the bus journey continued.

This story has now been followed by five more picture books.

I also undertake events and author bookings and love to share the story. There are also a few more stories in the writing process, with links to real events and buses.

The story has been read in many schools in the south-East of England, where I teach as a cover teacher, it is always well received and certainly different.

Jay-Jay the bus is rescued from the dirty scrap yard, where he was sadly gathering dust and cobwebs. Feeling nervous yet excited, he is taken to an airport where he is magically transformed into a ‘Playbus’ full of toys, games and adventure.
A fictional tale based on a real-life bus ‘Supersonic’, which flew in the imaginations of the many young children who visited it.

My Review

My introduction for this book should have given you a good idea of HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK! I am not ashamed to admit that I love to read children’s books, not just for my boys…but for me too. I love to escape into a crazy, imagined world where anything is possible. I have always been a big believer in encouraging children to read and be interested in books. My boys love a good story, and especially ones which have them captivated from the start.

Jay Jay, the Supersonic Bus was a wonderful story, which had heart. It told the lovely story of a bus from a scrapyard, who was made useful again. The story was lovely and we as a family, rooted for Jay Jay and we were fascinated by his character. My boys listened intently as I read each page to them and were left satisfied and pleased when we got the final page. My youngest asked if there were more books with Jay Jay in and I was so happy to tell him that there were. 🙂

Brilliant writing! Brilliant Story! Great read for children!

My Conclusion

My boys loved it! I loved it! We as a family loved it! This childrens book ticked all the boxes for me. Definately recommend this to all of my readers!

I am always a big fan of an attention grabbing front cover, something that intrigues the reader from the very first glance, and by golly does this book do that. It reeled me in from the first page. I pored over each page quickly and sunk into the story, immersing myself entirely into Penny’s world….both the painful one she left behind and the one she comes to love.

Before I tell you more about this sweet, enjoyable romance, let me give you a bit more about the writer.

About the Author

The Worth of a Penny Author Photo.jpeg
Jess B Moore is a writer of love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s busy mothering her talented and stubborn children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she’ll likely never finish.

Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cats, thinking the Internet loves them as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.

Her novels combine her interests in family, music, and small towns into thoughtful tales of growing up and falling in love.

About the Book

the worth of a penny Cover

Sweetheart Penelope Davies is what her daddy calls gullible, right after he told her she was stupid and worthless. With her cheek red from being slapped by him, and her heart trampled by a worthless boyfriend, she packs up and follows her half-brother to Fox River, North Carolina, in need of a fresh start.

Dominic MacKenna is the youngest of five brothers, the friendly one with a killer smile and easy laugh. His brothers are all grown up, and one by one they’re flying the nest, leaving him out of sorts and unsure of his place. Who is he if not the youngest MacKenna?

Penny falls in with the MacKenna brothers, welcomed in as family, and offered the kind of love and support she never knew existed. With a new job and a lot of determination, she is finding out what she’s capable of. The last thing she needs now is to fall in love with the most notorious flirt in town.

Dominic falls for the sweet strong girl with a penchant for random facts and quirky homemade dresses. All he wants is to show Penny how wonderful she is, how smart and funny, and how desired and loved—even if he has to do it as her friend.

My Review

One of the hardest things about writing a book review, is trying to hold back when it comes to telling my readers about the story I have read. I really want to tell you everything about this book, because it was wonderful from start to finish. I loved the character interaction and I enjoyed reading as Penny grew as a person.

The love story had me captivated from the start and I willed on the young couple as they experienced new feelings. My heart raced as they grew closer and closer. One of the things I loved so much was the connection the brothers had with one another; the author did so well with building up their bond and I felt the connections as I read greedily from the pages. I have always been a fan of romance, but this story ran deeper than that. It was written with charm and tenderness; I found the words oozed easily from the book and it flowed wonderfully.

Although a standalone story, this was part of a series, and I will be CERTAINLY going back to read the previous ones.

Conclusion

If you are looking for the perfect holiday read this year, look no further than this one! Perfect read for those lazy days! Give this one a whirl! You wont regret it!

My Review

I am a sucker for a captivating, romance read and this story held me captive from the very first pages. I was intrigued by the mysterious story and I pored the pages enthusiastically as I delved deeper into the story and the characters within.

Isla has been left Pearl Island, by her Aunt Kate, following her death. What she gets is more than bricks, mortar and masses of sun. What she finds are answers to secrets that run deep through her aunts history, entwining her own past and present. The story was written brilliantly and I loved that we saw more into the past, it helped us to understand Kate a lot more. I loved the character interactions, especially between Isla and Leo…I felt Isla’s attraction towards him. The sleeveless vests, his muscled arms, his tanned skin, his pale green eyes; I read with keen interest as Isla got closer to her teen love, but obviously the path of true love never does run smoothly.

This was one of the first books that I have read by Janice, but it wont be one of my last. I loved how it was written, the style was perfect and it flowed wonderfully! Brilliant story, brilliant setting and brilliant characters! One to Read!

Conclusion

If you haven’t read anything by this talented author yet, I suggest you look her up. This book was brilliant from start to finish and one that I would highly recommend.
