Hi all!

Today, I don’t bring you just ONE BLOGTOUR POST, I bring you TWO! Two amazing books, Two amazing authors, and Two Amazing reads…both different in their genres and style, but both brilliant reading material.

As always, I must thank the people who invite me along to this tour. Without our blog host, Rachel of Rachels Random Resources (https://www.rachelsrandomresources.com), and the fantastic writer, Barbara Claypole White, I would never have been introduced to this thought provoking, heart-wrenching story of a mother who is torn from her daughter by her poor mental health. This book is 100% a 5 star read! I don’t give 5 stars away very often, but this book totally deserves it. My Feels were definately hit hard with this story.

About the Book

White-ThePromiseBetweenUs-21872-CV-FT-v8

“If you leave your newborn child because you have unstoppable thoughts of harming her, are you a good mother or a terrible one? This dilemma is at the heart of Barbara Claypole White’s novel, a wrenching story of how one woman’s OCD has a ripple effect on those around her—including the people she tried hardest to protect. This is an eye-opening and realistic exploration of mental illness—a topic that greatly deserves to be front and center.”
Jodi Picoult, New York Times bestselling author of Small Great Things.

Metal artist Katie Mack is living a lie. Nine years ago she ran away from her family in Raleigh, North Carolina, consumed by the irrational fear that she would harm Maisie, her newborn daughter. Over time she’s come to grips with the mental illness that nearly destroyed her, and now funnels her pain into her art. Despite longing for Maisie, Katie honors an agreement with the husband she left behind—to change her name and never return.
But when she and Maisie accidentally reunite, Katie can’t ignore the familiarity of her child’s compulsive behaviour. Worse, Maisie worries obsessively about bad things happening to her pregnant stepmom. Katie has the power to help, but can she reconnect with the family she abandoned?
To protect Maisie, Katie must face the fears that drove her from home, accept the possibility of love, and risk exposing her heart-wrenching secret.

My Review

How on earth do I leave my review about a story that I loved and NOT give away any ‘Spoilers’!?

This story was brutal, honest and fantastically written. I was pulled into the story from the very first pages and was hooked instantly. The story had a flow which was easy to read, but which also offered lots of emphasis on Katie and her mental illness which plagued her incessantly after the birth of her baby daughter. I felt each torturous struggle in those first few pages, as Katie tried in vain to control the unnatural images which assaulted her daily life. The writing was powerfully accurate and I found myself reading with a racing heart as I read deeper into the story.

The pace was brilliant and I felt connections to the characters, enabling me to care about them and there part in this story. I love a story that writes from differing angles and this helped to bring this story together nicely, as we found more out about the characters involved. I was absorbed by the connecting characters and felt the dialogue and character interactions were relatable and realistic.

It was interesting to read more about OCD and I felt like I came away having learned more about this disorder. I will be ensuring that I read more works by this author, because fantastically satisfied by the conclusion!
Fab Book! Fab Read! Please add this to you TBR list! You will not be sorry!

Conclusion
I love all of the books that I get sent through for review, but this by far is one of my favourites! Fantastic read from start to finish! I highly recommend!

Rating – 5 out of 5!

Another Book Review – All on the same day! I have been busy haven’t I? And let me tell you! I have enjoyed every single page that I have turned! This book was a brilliant read from start to finish, I enjoyed the fast pace  and I read greedily as I rushed head first into the dramatic story which had me hooked!

As always, I would never have been introduced to this wonderful book if it hadn’t have been for the wonderful blog host and the author of this book! So big thanks go to Rachel of Rachels Random Resources (www.rachelsrandomresources.com) and the Author, Jo Woolaston (https://www.jowoolaston.com)

Pink Ice Creams - eBook Cover.jpgThe summary of this story had me intrigued and I was looking forward to getting started on this book. A few pages in and I was eager to read more into the story and to see how it concluded. The flow was very well done and I read smoothly throughout the pages.

Here’s a little bit about the writer!

About the Author
Pink Ice Creams Bio Pic.jpg
Jo Woolaston lives in Leicestershire, England with her extreme noise-making husband and two lovely sons. She tries to avoid housework and getting a ‘proper job’ by just writing stuff instead – silly verse, screenplays, shopping lists…

This sometimes works in her favour (she did well in her MA in TV Scriptwriting, gaining a Best Student award in Media and Journalism – and has had a few plays produced – that kind of thing) but mostly it just results in chronic insomnia and desperate tears of frustration. Pink Ice Creams is her first novel, she hopes you liked it.

About the Book
Pink Ice Creams - eBook Cover

Intent on fixing her broken marriage and the alcohol-fuelled catastrophe that is her life, Kay Harris arrives at her grim and grey holiday let, ready to lay to rest the tragedy that has governed her entire adulthood – the disappearance of her little brother, Adam.

But the road to recovery is pitted with the pot-holes of her own poor choices, and it isn’t long before Kay is forced to accept that maybe she doesn’t deserve the retribution she seeks. Will the intervention of strangers help her find the answers she needs to move on from her past, or will she always be stuck on the hard shoulder with no clear view ahead and a glove box full of empties?

Pink Ice Creams is a tale of loss, self-destruction, and clinging on to the scraps of the long-lost when everyone else has given up hope.

My Review

Kay Harris has a lot of demons; memories of tragic loss which has ripped her life apart and sent her on a downward spiral. Her need for alcohol is almost overpowering and yet she knows that she must try to confront what happened if she has any chance of moving forward.

The story was hard to read at times, but I felt the painful struggle that Kay faced daily. I read as she shouldered guilt from events that occurred when she was younger, events which saw her younger brother, Adam, disappear.

The character interactions were created brilliantly and I read with intrigue as I delved deeper into this book.

This is a fantastic read! Hard to read at times, but powerful and moving! One to read!

The Conclusion

Fantastic story, well written. I will be adding this author to my watch list as I really want to see more of her work! One to watch!

The Suspects Cover
This book took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from start to finish! It was thrilling, haunting and deeply dramatic! I read each page greedily as I tried to get deeper into the story. I loved the fact that it was mainly set in the 1980’s and loved the interaction between the characters.

Before I dive further into my review, lets read a bit more about the author.

About the Author

After their New Year’s Eve party, they discover a body – and it’s clear they’ll be the first suspects. As each of them has a good reason from their past not to trust the police, they come up with a solution – one which forces them into a life of secrets and lies. But can they trust each other?

“The hugely talented Katharine Johnson has, again delivered a tense thriller! This is a compelling novel – up there with Erin Kelly and Sophie Hannah.”
Val Penny, author of The Edinburgh Crime Mysteries.

“Gripping and frighteningly realistic. The twists and turns kept me guessing to the very end.”
Jo Fenton, author of The Brotherhood.

My Review

I was intrigued from the opening pages, as I read into Zanthes funeral. I pored over each word and felt instant connections with the characters that I came across. The story unravelled itself as I read deeper and I found myself hating, loving and rooting for the characters. The story flowed brilliantly and I was in awe of the writers style…I was kept hooked from the beginning and she created realistic, complex people who wanted to know more about.

The building suspense and mystery kept me reading for hours and I was left shocked as secrets and twists developed on the pages in front of me. It wasn’t easy to like all of the characters, but I still found their interactions and dialogue easy to read. I was immersed into their world and I was witness to their double-crossing, back-stabbing behaviour. The distrust from some of the characters was unmistakeable and I enjoyed reading as this dark, twisty story spun dangerously towards its climax!

I want to get into this story so fiercely, and I want to tell you so much more about it, but YOU really need to try it yourself. This was an amazing read and one that I 100% recommend.

Conclusion

Fantastic, brilliant read from an author who I will be watching carefully from now on! I loved the story and I would recommend this to all of my followers, plus family and friends! Go give this book a go!
